About

Rebecca is pretty sure she could rake in some dough by planning vacations for Las Vegas tourists.  As it stands, she has had 35 people stay in her home since she moved into her atomic-age pad Christmas of 2008.  Like a Griswold, she prints out daily itineraries for her guests. She is well versed on deals to be had, unique things to experience and those which should be blown off. She likes her town in a nostalgic sort of way, even though she has only been a resident for three years.  Always a patron of Las Vegas’ cultural First Friday celebration, Rebecca has met professionals and fellow ’urban explorers’ which share her own interests in Las Vegas nostalgia, local art, atomic architecture, bizarre history, and dessert gems.

These are two of Rebecca's favorite Elivs tribute artists.

As a bartender in downtown Las Vegas’ Fremont district, she often hands out pointers to visitors while they sip their cocktails.  After three years of scribbling the names of businesses, venues, coupon websites and menu items accompanied by maps the size of a cocktail napkins, she thinks she may have enlightened many.  In addition, Rebecca hopes she has contributed to putting money in small vendors’ wallets as well as supported diverse entertainment in a town which is becoming stream-lined.

Don’t get her wrong.  Stream-lining can be good.  She likes sleek, clean, uncluttered things, but mostly those created mid-century.  Just take note of her club memberships; Rebecca belongs to the Las Vegas’ Euchreplayers Association.  Euchre is a quick, fast-paced card game which consists of only 24 cards.  An old game, it is simple, neat and requires some strategy.  Like many other older and practically obsolete things, she hopes to lend in its revival.  She is also a member of the Las Vegas chapter of the Atomic Age Alliance which celebrates mid-century design, architecture, signage, culture and business.  Sleek and stream-lined, the alliance is full of no-nonsense members, crusading to preserve and protect any culture and nostalgia which exists in Las Vegas.

When Rebecca’s not crusading or pointing the way for tourists, she’s finishing up her Journalism degree at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  She feels it has been a long time coming, and hopes to put her passions to work by marketing them and writing about them.  She has gained experience from promoting downtown Las Vegas’ offerings as well as her friends’ popular bands. She has been an anchor for Okemos, Michigan’s award-winning HOM-TV-21 and has paid her dues by fulfilling a copy-editor position for The State News, the nation’s largest circulated college newspaper.  A current public relations internship with Las Vegas’ own PR Plus can only enrich her understanding of what Las Vegas can retain.  It may pain her to find what is on the city’s way out–hopefully not long-running shows, older buildings, independent businesses, good deals, conventions or (eek!) culture.
