There’s no doubt that modern technology has changed the way our society interacts and communicates. From smartphones to digital still cameras to hand-held video recorders, the tools for capturing the events happening around us are in the hands of the people. The implications for the future of journalism are immense. ”When the people formerly known as the audience employ the press tools in their possession to inform one another,” says NYU Journalism professor Jay Rosen, “that’s citizen journalism.”
With such projects as Project Report, YouTube (and Google) are actively encouraging the use of video sharing for storytelling and journalistic reporting.
